An Artist’s Refuge - Exhibition Call Out
Location: Parndon Mill, Harlow, CM20 2HP
Exhibition Dates: 11th Jan - 18th Feb 2024
Curator: Bethany Haysom
Brief:
I am looking for artwork from new and emerging artists and designers, to include in a sales based exhibition inspired by An Artist’s Refuge. If you are interested in being considered, please send images of new or existing artworks to bethany.haysom@gmail.com, along with a completed submission form (see below), by 27th November 2023.
I am planning to select 1-4 pieces of original artwork from 6-10 artists, and a range of smaller affordable merchandise from up to 20 artists (artists can apply for both of these).
The exhibition will take place at Parndon Mill Gallery, Harlow, between 11th January and 18th February 2024. Please submit digital entries for consideration to bethany.haysom@gmail.com by 27th November 2023. You will be informed by 11th December 2023 if your work is to be included.
Curatorial concept - ‘An Artist’s Refuge’:
The unique setting of Parndon Mill feels like An Artist's Refuge. It is an old water mill, which has been transformed into artists’ studios and a gallery, resulting in a space where artists can be in this beautiful hub of nature and creativity.
David Hockney speaks about a feeling similar to this in Spring Cannot Be Cancelled, describing a time when he was in Normandy, painting his recent works:
“I think I’ve found a real paradise. This place is perfect for me right now. I’m less interested in what other people are doing. I’m just interested in my own work. I think I’m on the edge of something, a different way of drawing is coming through, and I can do it here. I couldn’t do it anywhere else.” - David Hockney
I want to encapsulate this feeling in this exhibition, while bringing in new perspectives, from new, emerging artists. A sense of calm, yet bubbling, creativity.
